LA Rams' Surprising Resilience: From a Seahawks Victory to Holding Ground Against the 49ers
A lady was recently detained after being accused of making a threat against a Nintendo boss. Unfortunately, harassment and threats against employees of game firms are frequent events in the gaming industry. In the past, Nintendo has taken steps to shield its personnel from client abuse, especially those who work in repair services.
This type of intimidation is said to have recently affected one of Nintendo's executives. According to Kyoto Shimbun and Nintendo, on February 9 the police in Kyoto detained a lady on suspicion of intimidating him. She is accused of shipping a box addressed to the executive at Nintendo's south Kyoto headquarters and threatening him with death. According to reports, the package also included papers that claimed, among other things, "I-I'll kill you" and "Die Nintendo!"
Nintendo has not yet made a statement regarding the matter, and the identity of the questioned official is still unknown. However, it is noteworthy that the arrest occurred on the same day as the Japanese broadcast of the Nintendo Direct for February 2023. The threats might have been made about the highly anticipated Nintendo Direct, which featured several high-profile announcements like Metroid Prime Remastered and the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's new trailer.
In recent years, harassment directed at video game creators and executives has received increased attention due to the widespread nature of the problem and the harm it may cause to the targets. Late last year, US Congress members even looked into harassment in the gaming sector, specifically about Activision Blizzard, Riot Games, and Ubisoft. It is more likely that new laws will be passed to combat and discourage these threats as they persist and, in some circumstances, worsen to the point where they become crimes.
