From Above with Love: Orbital Bombardment (Steam) Review

Orbital Bombardment, by indie developer Banibot Games, is an engaging little title that puts you in the exciting role of a bombardier tasked with destroying enemy bases and structures on a planet from an orbital perspective. With its simple yet engaging gameplay, this game offers a unique and fun experience.

The objective of the game is clear: bomb the enemy targets while skillfully evading their defensive weapons. The gameplay revolves around strategically navigating your way around the planet and adjusting your course as necessary to avoid the incoming fire. This adds an element of challenge and excitement, as you must constantly be on the move and make split-second decisions to stay alive and complete your mission.

Blast, Boom, Boom!

Orbital Bombardment is designed with user-friendly controls, making it easy for players of all skill levels to navigate. Players can switch between weapons using numeric keys and move their ship to avoid incoming missiles with the WASD keys.

Additionally, zooming in to focus on the target is effortless with the press of a button. However, it should be noted that controllers are not supported, which may detract from the otherwise enjoyable arcade-style gameplay experience.

Visually, the game presents a charming and vibrant art style. The graphics may not be overly complex or realistic, but they have a certain charm that adds to the overall enjoyment. The gaseous atmospheres surrounding each planet, for example, create an immersive experience that complements the gameplay. However, the ship you pilot pales in comparison to the detailed planets and structures, but it still gets the job done.

The game's sound design further enhances the experience. The energetic background music and sound effects provide an adrenaline-pumping atmosphere, intensifying the sense of urgency and excitement as you navigate through the orbit. The audio cues also help in alerting you to incoming threats, allowing you to react swiftly and strategically.

Bomb Squad in Space

Orbital Bombardment is highly re-playable and offers well-designed levels with increasing difficulty. As you advance through the game, the challenges become more demanding, which keeps you engaged and motivated to improve your abilities and accomplish the missions. The feeling of making progress adds an extra layer of satisfaction to the overall gaming experience.

I really enjoy playing Orbital Bombardment, but I believe it has the potential to be even better with more diverse gameplay elements. While the current mechanics are engaging, incorporating power-ups, new enemy types, or different level objectives could enhance the complexity and longevity of the game.

At present, the game seems relatively straightforward because the primary strategy is to eliminate the cannon and laser turrets first, after which attacking the rest of the planet's structures becomes effortless.

A Bombardier's Odyssey

Overall, Orbital Bombardment is a delightful indie game that offers an engaging and unique experience. With its simple yet addictive gameplay, intuitive controls, appealing visuals, and immersive sound design, it successfully captures the excitement of bombing enemy targets from an orbital perspective.

Despite the potential for added gameplay variety, the game delivers a satisfying and worthwhile experience that will keep players entertained for hours on end.
