Walking simulators are a relatively new kind of game. But when done right, they offer experiences that can be incredibly immersive and emotionally stimulating
All the excitement leading up to Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty's release today was quickly extinguished when players found out it wasn't living up to its promised potential. Across Steam and Game Pass, gamers have taken to submitting negative reviews, complaining about everything from glitchy gameplay, erratic camera angles, and less-than-stellar gameplay
While fans may be disappointed with the overall lack of quality, this doesn't seem to be a surprise for those familiar with the game's developer. This company has become notorious for delivering subpar titles. Despite the poor reception given to Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, it still could use some love from hardcore fans and gamers looking for something new. However, through its innovative concept and ambitious design, there is still hope that this Souls-like action RPG will eventually live up to its potential.
Trying to play can feel like more of a chore than a joy with erratic camera angles and glitchy controls. It's no wonder this game is attracting the the ire of many frustrated players. Of course, such difficulties could be surmounted, given enough practice, but it always feels like you're fighting against the game itself.
Imagine trying to battle a foe, only for your view of the opponent to become obscured or jerky due to the lack of smooth transitions from one angle to another. And when you do manage to spot an opening, much of that same frustration arises again as you struggle with imprecise controls These problems are really quite unforgivable in a time where such issues should have been solved long before it was released.
Let's hope that Koei Tecmo has several patches in the works; if not, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty may never be able to get back up. We will have a review of the game up soon.
