Platypus Reclayed is so good, but its straightforward approach and brisk pacing might leave you wishing there was just a bit more on the demo to chew on. Developer Claymatic Games truly understands how to make games that are fun, accessible, and visually striking, and this one is no exception.
The game has everything going for it: the claymation graphics are top-notch, the remixed soundtrack is infectious, and the levels are crafted with a playful attention to detail.
In classic shooter stories, you’re a lone pilot facing down an endless onslaught of quirky enemies and oversized bosses. The story is as old as the genre itself, but it hardly matters when the gameplay is so good that you’ll find yourself glued to the screen, blasting away just to see the next level
The title throws everything it can at you—armored blimps, clay robots, and imaginative boss fights that keep the action lively. But the real star here is the visual style. The handcrafted claymation is more than a gimmick; it’s the icing on the cake, giving every explosion and enemy a unique, squishy tactile feel that’s a joy to watch in motion.
While the enemy patterns aren’t always the most cunning, the sheer creativity of the levels keeps things fresh. The music and sound effects are also standouts—this is one of the rare cases where I never felt the urge to lower the volume of the soundtrack. Instead, the upbeat, retro beeps and boops perfectly complements the action.
Overall, Platypus Reclayed is one of the most charming shooters to hit the PC in years. It’s approachable, visually delightful, and delivers exactly the kind of honest, pick-up-and-play fun that’s made 16-bit gaming so much fun.
Even if the demo felt a tad short, the gameplay was everything I hoped for and more. If you’re craving classic shooting game with a style all its own, Platypus Reclayed is well worth your time.
